Like most young women in the 1950s, Maureen's dreams are of marriage and babies. When, at eighteen, she marries the eligible Trevor Mountford, there is no hint of the problems to come. Isn't he handsome and intelligent, like the stars she loves to see at the cinema? Trevor is both of those things, but he proves an enigma, and married life is not what she expected. Bewildered, Maureen eventually finds the strength to make a crucial decision. One which will bring Greg Barlow into her life - a man as different to Trevor as anyone could be.
