George Tilson is an 18 year old farmboy from Iowa. Enlisted in the Army during WW II he arrives at Normandy just after D-Day. In combat he witnesses a kind of brutality unlike any that he could have imagined. Fear consumes him, and he comes to the dark realization that he is a coward.
