Clement Winter is an Oxford don and lives a calm, prosperous life with his wife Sheila, a best selling author. When his brother Joseph dies, Clement sorts through the papers and letters he left behind, and tries to make sense of Joseph's life. In trying to understand his dead brother's life in the turmoil of the Far East at war, Clement realises how little he understands his own. Unsuitable for family reading.
