One evening, Carolina says goodnight to her partner, Aksel. Things have been tough for both of them recently, especially with an eight-month-old son to raise. So when Aksel dies unexpectedly in the night, Carolina's world is turned upside down. Carolina receives a strange email from her boyfriend Aksel, detailing computer passwords and other instructions in event of his death. She's irritated-- this is so typical of her unsentimental partner! Aksel ends the message: Let's hope for the best! Five months later, he is dead. As she recounts their passionate first encounter, months of courtship, and decision to have a child together, Carolina devotedly chronicles the months after Aksel's passing like a ship's log, eager to find some explanation for the bad hand she's been dealt.
