Though Diana is told that this work is a science fiction novel, she soon finds that Evelyn and the diary are at the vortex of a high octane mystery. When Evelyn is murdered in the same bazar manner as her fictional heroin, Diana begins a dangerous journey following the leads from California to New Mexico and finally to the Costa Rican rain forest. Her investigation turns up secrets regarding global warming, corporate greed, and a deadly alternative fuel which could make the Earth as dry and lifeless as Mars.
