"The publication offers most significant texts written by Stanisław Ropelewski; undoubtedly one of the prominent literary critics of the Great Emigration at the turn of the 1830s and 1840s. Ropelewsi took active part in the November Uprising as well as in colonel Józef Zaliwski's expedition. After that time he went to Paris where he was recognized as a ltierary critic whose articles were published in "Młoda Polska". This edition contains Ropelewski's complete texts published for the first time after 17- year-hiatus. They discuss Polish emigration literature of that time as well as his idea of literature, which render it a sort of his artistic project. They include: Polish emigration writing. Memoirs published in "The Calendar of Polish Pilgrimages fo 1840" and the preface to the second edition of The Memoirs of Sir Seweryn Soplica, Cupbearer of Parnawa by Henryk Rzewuski written in 1841. In addition, the selection includes two short texts devoted to works by Juliusz Słowacki, and also the poet's response to the first text which was published in "Młoda Polska""--Page 121.
