As the Second World War rages, Mary Anne Randall is struggling to keep her family together. Then a mysterious lawyer appears with news of an unexpected legacy, which her estranged husband tries to keep from her, and the pawnshop which she is caretaking for Michael, her lover, is damaged, supposedly in an air raid. Mary Anne must draw on all her resources to keep going during these difficult times.
