In 1988, on the eve of the bursting of Japan's bubble economy, he transformed himself into a detective who was wrongly accused of a crime. He investigated the strange suicide case of Qingmei, which led to the secret of a 20-year-long serial murder case. He shuttled through the streets of Showa, which were filled with cigarettes, alcohol and neon lights.
