The film portrays the eventful life of the anti-fascist Karl Brauner (1914–1994). It recounts his youth in Leipzig, his underground political activities after 1933, his emigration to Spain, and his experiences during the Spanish Revolution and the Civil War. As a member of the anarcho-syndicalist movement, Brauner took part in the uprising in Barcelona and fought against the coup plotters in various militia units.
