Why are we patrolling with no purpose?

On a reconnaissance mission behind enemy lines, soldier Ițic and Commandant Ghioagă find no enemy, only growing mistrust. Paranoia pushes them to the edge of violence, broken at times by absurdity. When they meet a young deserter, Ghioagă wants him dead, but Itic spares him. Lost between fronts, Itic takes his life, while Ghioagă is later killed by the same deserter.
