"Inertia has been my problem with time always. In the 70s I was losing myself in the endless possibilities of my practice as a painter. I saw Michael Snow’s Wavelength and it occurred to me that I might examine my problem with time-lapse film. I would film myself as a stone in the desert where hardly anything moves but the light and weather throughout the entire day. That day, compressed into 6 minutes, would provide a vision of just how curiously impossible it is for a living being to sustain true Inertia -the title for this film record of that day." -Tony Phillips
