On Wednesday, December 14, 2022, the police received an alert: several chimpanzees had escaped from their enclosures in the ape house at Furuvik Park, outside Gävle. Five hours later, we learned that four chimpanzees had been shot dead. What happened? Why did the park make the drastic decision to shoot them? Did they pose a danger to humans?
