During the Eastern Han, Hepu's Southern Pearls were valuable, and a gambling culture around them flourished. Li Ling, known as the "Pearl Prince," is ruined by a Magistrate who rigs one of these pearl gambles. Forced to become a pawn in manipulating pearl prices, Li Ling meets a tragic end as the scapegoat. After death, he is reborn moments before his downfall, awakening the supernatural ability to see through and sense oysters.
