1944 Literature professor Maria Schiller comes from Germany to the German-occupied village of Mikhailovskoye to the Pushkin Museum and conducts educational work among Wehrmacht soldiers and local peasants, telling them about the great Russian poet. Her actions cause disapproval of the German command. The front is getting closer, and soon an order comes from Berlin - to take out all historical values from Mikhailovsky.
