The Princess Royal and the General

No ratings yet

Princess Royal Nangong Yao of the Southern Kingdom witnesses her mother's tragic death at a young age and grows up within the deceitful palace walls, believing no one can be trusted. She vies for the throne, against the incompetent Crown Prince Nangong Sheng who has the advantage as the legitimate heir. General Chu Yuan, Crown Prince Sheng's guard who commands an army of 100,000 at sixteen, vows never to marry, and remains loyal to the throne, is Sheng's strongest support. During a hunting expedition, Yao ambushes Sheng. To prevent war, General Chu allows himself to be captured and humiliated. Yao and Chu's first encounter sparks an unexpected bond. Yao uses loyalty as a pawn, tempting Chu with aphrodisiacs and power to betray his master, only to be moved by his devotion to protecting the people. Sheng colludes with spies from the Qi Kingdom, repeatedly framing Chu and even attempting to kill Yao. Torn between loyalty and love, Chu eventually recognizes Sheng's treasonous acts and switches sides to support Yao. Together, the two expose Sheng's crimes of regicide and treason. However, during an exhumation, a shocking twist emerges—Yao is not of royal blood, and Consort Shu uses Yao's secret against her. To save Yao's life, Chu is forced to give a false testimony. Mistakenly assuming that Chu has betrayed her, Yao imprisons him after ascending the throne. When war breaks out at the border, Chu leads a campaign to reclaim lost territory but falls into Consort Shu's trap. At a critical moment, he fakes his death to uncover traitors and saves Yao from an assassination attempt. After the truth comes to light, Yao forgives Chu. Working together to stabilize the kingdom, the legend of the Female Emperor and the General is thus born.
