A seemingly innocuous sequence drawn from a DVD calibration menu becomes the starting point for a film that slips away from its own premise. An Asian woman wanders through a sunlit lagoon landscape accompanied by a syrupy soundtrack, until a synthetic voice interrupts the image: “This image is to test the sound and the color.” From this point onward, the film unfolds in three movements that gradually dissolve the boundary between function and narrative. What begins as a parody of self-help or training videos shifts into an intimate documentary on the preparation of a film, before being abruptly disrupted by the intrusion of the material conditions of filmmaking itself, where completion appears as both necessity and impossibility. The work situates itself in the space of rehearsal and process, where a filmmaker, at home or in transit, is indistinguishable from the act of making, and where the film exists only as it is being assembled.
